Marsh Kitchens

We met with Jack, a great guy from Marsh Kitchens, this afternoon. He came out to the house and looked at the space, took measurements and we talked about the features that we'd like. He'll have some drawings and a quote for us later this week. We've shifted focus some because of some problems with the wall, etc - I look forward to showing it all off and getting your feedback!

Sort of back to the drawing board!

A few days to think later...

We are getting a "second opinion" on Monday... wait and see - my favorite.

Professional Measuring

We had our professional measuring this morning and ran into three issues. Not sure their impact at this point.

  1. We have a bow in one of our walls which will make the cabinets not be straight - how to fix it? Take the paneling down and replace the stud, and with drywall, or carefully remove the paneling and remove the stud, and put a new stud in.
  2. Our new cabinets/back splash won't necessarily fit in the same spots as our old cabinets. We'll just have plywood. So we need to find paneling that matches, or remove it and drywall around it.
  3. To get our kitchen to code we will need more electrical circuits, and the ceiling below the kitchen is finished. So that means taking part of it down, running the wires, and then fixing the ceiling.
None of this is awful, but it back to the drawing board with our budget, and time to brush up on our home improvement skills.... Any ideas on how I can make some more money?

Round Three - ready for the professional measuring!

Round Two!

The cabinet bead board doesn't really look this defined in person, it is just the file.
Desk area - notice the glass cabinet

Long view from the dining room - remember doors and molding is white

Dishwasher and Microwave are black - door is glass to backyard

Biggest change. Stove hood, instead of block of cabinets. What do you think?

Countertop

the one in the middle

Sample door

Backplash and counter choice

I think this is the back splash we would like, with a little transition piece between the stone (the stone also has more grey and black tones than the pictures shows) and the countertop. The backsplash is really where we are stuck at the moment. Pretty settled about the other choices.

Door style

The First Round

Pictures are here!!!  Let me know your comments.

From in front of the fridge. The door between the cabinets is really glass and goes to the backyard

From the dining room - Laundry door is straight ahead (and is white)

From the entry way door. Again door is glass into the backyard.

From the backdoor. Door on right goes to the garage/basement

Home Depot won!

After 4 hours with the kitchen designer at Home Depot I think we have a winner! She is finalizing the drawing, and the installer should be out to verify it next week. We have to get everything finalized by the 28th to get all the promotions offered, so it is going to be a quick couple of weeks.

Next I will be putting my project management skills to work setting a more formal budget and scheduling. Looks like long nights and weekends  for us for a while!

I will post some pictures when we get them tonight or tomorrow.

Love it

I am starting this blog tonight out of a bit of advice a coworker told my husband today as we started to talk about our remodel project at 802.

She said "I taught my husband this early in our remodeling, the correct answer is always, Love it!"

Although he's been practicing, he doesn't have that bit of sarcastism out of his voice quiet yet.

The planning for the kitchen redo has been going on for months between us and the IKEA create your own kitchen program. We are off to meet with a kitchen designer tomorrow at Home Depot to see if the Martha Stewart line trumps IKEA.

The designer asked us to bring pictures of our old kitchen. I am so embarrassed on how ugly and cluttered it is - I can't even post them here.

Wish us luck!
